This weeks Booking Through Thursday question is:
All things being equal (money, space, etc), would you rather own copies of the books you read? Or borrow them?
I do both. I borrow a book from the library to see if I like it, especially if its a new author that I'm trying, and if I have enjoyed the book I will then buy two copies - one for my kindle app and a physical book as well. I mainly do this because I don't want to take my books out with me, plus I do a lot of reading at night so having the book on my kindle means I save money on my electricity bill. Not really a good thing as I spend the savings I make on more books. Doing this I have amassed over 300 books both on my kindle app and on my bookshelves.
I am all for selective hoarding. I already own more than 2500 books!

Great answer! I'm the same way, in which I like to own books. All the better for re-reading them! :)
ReplyDeleteNice blog!
I’m a big re-reader so I like to own my books but I have to start using the library more as I'm running out of room.

I definitely agree with checking out new authors via the library. However, I am so guilty of buying books based on hype. I'm actually not allowed in bookstores unaccompanied anymore. :-) I'm also guilty of double-buying on Nook and physical copies so the physical copy stays nice-looking!

ReplyDeleteThank you for stopping by my blog. I thought I was the only one who did that. Its so nice to see an untouched book sitting on my shelves, it makes me happy (strange I know)

For me it definitely own. I LOVE re reading books so much that I like to have them in the convenience of my own bookshelves. But when I do go to the library I end up bringing back about 15 books but those books are usually books that I have never heard of before that sound really good, or checking out a new book that i think I might like, but don't think I would buy. And I just love the feeling of buying a new book or getting new books that I ordered in the mail!!!
